When the solar cells only receive partial sunlight during the day like sunlight in the shade, then they will either provide dim lighting or full lighting for a shorter period of time at night. To ensure that outdoor solar lights don’t waste their stored light energy, they have photo sensors that measure the light levels. Each unit has their own photo sensor and they function by telling the unit when the sun is setting and when dawn has arrived for the purpose of saving it’s stored light energy.
